NYCMS Joins the New York Send-Off for Fergus Walks Across America

The New York Celtic Medical Society was delighted to join New York's Irish community in supporting Fergus Farrell as he began an extraordinary 4,500-kilometre journey from the Brooklyn Bridge to Santa Monica Pier.

The weekend began with a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Ireland in New York, bringing together Fergus's family, friends and supporters, representatives of Spinal Injuries Ireland and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, and members of the wider Irish and Irish-American community.

On Saturday morning, supporters gathered at the Brooklyn Bridge to accompany Fergus on the opening steps of his 75-day walk across the United States.

Fergus sustained a life changing spinal cord injury in 2018 and was initially given only a five per cent chance of walking again. Having defied that prognosis, he is now undertaking approximately six million steps across America to raise awareness and vital funds for people living with spinal cord injuries.

“Six million steps. One mission.”

NYCMS was proud to be part of the New York send-off and wishes Fergus strength, good health and every success throughout this remarkable journey.
